Job Description

Responsible for managing the administration of all plant safety and security programs and processes; takes action to ensure compliance with company programs and policies as well as federal, state and local regulations; recommends opportunities for improvement and implements changes as approved; prepares and executes annual plant safety and security initiatives.

  • Develop, manage, communicate, and monitor the annual safety and security program so that established objectives are achieved. Make mid-year adjustments or recommendations when variances are identified.
  • Develop facility’s safety and security performance standards and implement as approved; provide tools and methods to facility management to help the facility achieve established standards.
  • Ensure that risk assessments are completed and that appropriate corrective actions are recommended; follow up on recommendations to ensure that areas of risk are mitigated through the corrective actions. Risk assessments must identify potential losses resulting from accidents, damage to assets, security breaches, or other such hazards that might cause harm to employees, contractors, visitors, assets, or reputation.
  • Lead the local implementation of safety and security management systems as directed by senior management.
  • Ensure that all required training is completed and that any additional training needs are identified and resolved; provide local management with proactive, effective, and timely coaching on all safety and security issues.
  • Serves as the facility’s primary contact for all internal and external safety and security issues; participates as a subject matter expert in all corporate safety, security, and emergency management initiatives.
  • Prepare and manage the annual safety and security budget; ensure that all performance standards are satisfied with the most effective and efficient use of budget dollars.
  • Prepare, or approve, and file all regulatory and company reports as required or directed by the Corporate Risk Management Department.

Job Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health or related area of study or equivalent knowledge, skills, and ability acquired through working.

  • Four or more years of experience leading and managing safety and security programs in a manufacturing environment.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to employees at all levels and to influence management where no direct authority exists.

  • Expert knowledge of federal, state, and local safety and security regulations applicable to a food manufacturer.

  • Expert knowledge of risk assessment and management techniques.
