Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The product specification specialist will support in developing and maintaining the OSI internal product specification and manufacturing instructions, manage the customer specification provided by customer, generate product technical data sheets to provide the necessary information to customers, as well as collect and analyze ingredient specifications in ensuring OSI is compliant to food regulations and customer specific requirements. Product specification specialist will communicate with R&D, operation, sales, and ingredient suppliers to ensure achieving the single source of truth objective. Good communication skills is a must as heavy internal and external customer interface is needed.

MAJOR POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

(i.e., Policies, procedures, etc. for which you are responsible.)

  • Assist in developing the OSI production specification and manufacturing instruction database.
  • Review production and product information for accuracy.
  • Audit production plants to assure the product specification database is accurate.
  • Generate OSI product technical data sheets that are provided to customers.
  • Manage customer specifications that are provided by customers.  
  • Assist in developing ingredient material database.
  • Work with QA, maintaining ingredient material database which includes information on nutrition, GMO status, labeling, allergens and export compliant status.
  • Support in regulatory projects such as creating ingredient statements, nutritional panels, submitting USDA applications and reviewing retail labeling.
  • Provide support in R&D projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or related field of study.  
  • Minimum 2-4 years of experience in regulatory and nutrition with a USDA or FDA food manufacturer.  
  • Knowledge of and experience using FDA and USDA food regulations, specifications, and ingredient databases.
  • Strong problem solving, organization, and time management skills.
  • Detail oriented.  
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally.
  • Ability to handle complexity, multiple projects and work under tight timelines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others to bring projects to completion.
