Job Description

Position Summary

Is responsible for managing all programs, processes and procedures directly relating to product development and improvement. While doing so ensure that all quality and regulatory requirements are met.  This position requires strong organization and communication skills.  This position includes coordination between production management, procurement for meat and dry ingredients, coordination with Corporate Sales, Corporate R&D, manufacturers of packaging materials.  Responsibilities also include ensuring that a new product, which may involve changes to the process, ingredients is communicated to the HACCP Coordinator.   Employee is responsible for both external and internal product specifications and labeling.

Major Position Responsibilities

  • Perform all jobs in a manner that assures maximum possible personal safety, food safety and product quality.
  • Provide direct supervision to employees assigned to the labeling room.
  • Coordinate with Corporate R&D and Customer R&D Reps regarding tests.         This includes but is not limited to the following: Reserving Line Time, Ordering and receiving of ingredients, Labeling, Sending Product Samples, Process and finished product evaluations.
  • Conduct in-house product testing such as shelf life and sensory evaluations and archiving results.
  • Provide continuous feedback to customers as to the status of R&D projects.
  • Review and summarize data pertaining to R&D tests, data includes but not limited to Sensory, Analytical, yields and throughputs.
  • Maintain all test product, ingredient and packaging material inventories associated with product testing.
  • Assist Quality Manager on new product and or new customer applications and associated documentation.
  • Will coordinate QA Department for assistance as needed.
  • Maintain access on all customer on-line portals.
  • Advise QA and Operations as all regulatory requirements for export product.
  • Assist in resolution of customer complaints relating to possible formulation or product development issues.
  • Verify all ingredients and packaging materials for testing are from approved OSI suppliers.        
  • Must ensure all product development and realization complies with GFSI and Customer expectations.   
  • Work alongside with all departments to meet organizational goals.
  • Will be required to work 2nd shift and weekends as required.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Quality Assurance Manager.

Job Requirements


  • Must have minimum of 5 years’ experience in R&D, labeling and Regulatory requirements at corporate or production facility level.

  • Must have experience working with Microsoft Office products such as Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

  • Must demonstrate knowledge of characteristics and processes associated products or product categories similar to products manufactured at the OSI Oakland Facility.

  • Must possess and demonstrate effective organizational, written and verbal communication skills at all levels of the organization.

  • Required to obtain HACCP certification

  • Experience with Customer Expectations and requirements as it relates to specifications.

  • Must be able to work in production environment donning all required PPE.

  • Must be able to wear assigned Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

  • Required to obtain Lockout/Tag out Certification
