Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

Under general supervision, assist in developing, implementing, communicating, supporting and maintaining the organization’s occupational safety and loss control programs. Work with facility safety staff to provide timely and accurate guidance to resolve issues.

MAJOR POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review and update safety policies and procedures on a routine and as needed basis to assure compliance with applicable required federal, state, and local standards and regulations.
  • Administer safety related training via a Learning Management Systems (LMS) and external resources where applicable to meet OSHA requirements, as well industry standards (e.g. NFPA 40E, ANSI, etc.). Assist in content review and development, as well as vendor selection and content delivery.
  • Provide technical expertise, consultation and training to site safety staff on topics including, but not limited to, incident investigations, self-assessments, internal and external audit preparation, hazard recognition and control, risk management, behavior based safety, etc.. 
  • Perform and manage all aspects of the Corporate Safety Compliance Audit (CSCA) program, including but not limited to: coordination of audits with plant management and safety staff, observation of safe operations, review of recordkeeping and safety program documentation, tracking and verification of actions to close audit findings, and continuous improvement of audit protocols. 
  • Develop, implement and maintain Job Safety Analysis (JSA) programs for use in identifying possible safety hazards, developing effective safety guidelines, developing training programs, guiding incident investigations, evaluating ergonomics, and identifying cost savings opportunities.
  • Track and trend reporting incidents and calculate injury frequencies and OSHA recordkeeping compliance. Manage metrics reporting to onsite management teams and corporate based reporting systems. Review incident investigation reports and provide technical expertise to support plant level investigations to identify root causes and actions to prevent recurrence of incidents. Verify accuracy of OSHA 300/300A/301 log for all facilities.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce loss and injuries based on trending analysis through proactive programs and interventions.
  • Administer Emergency Action Plan for the Corporate and R&D facilities in Aurora IL 
  • Assist in representing company during federal, state and local safety inspections for OSI facilities, as needed.
  • Promote safety awareness throughout all facilities by using established programs in behavioral safety, hazard recognition and accountability.
  •  Performs other duties as assigned by the Corporate EHS Manager.

Job Requirements

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, environmental science, or related disciplines.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working in a similar role, managing safety and health in a corporate or plant environment. Manufacturing and food industry experience is preferred.
  • Professional certification preferred, Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), etc.
  • Knowledge of governmental safety compliance regulations and their influence on manufacturing operations and policies.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both individually and in group settings, with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to resolve problems regarding policies, procedures and safety programs.
  • Must have interpersonal skills to influence participants and decision-makers.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of time.
