Regulatory Specialist

OSI Group Aurora, IL (Onsite) Full-Time

This role is responsible for support in implementing new food regulation and laws that impact OSI products.  Collecting and analyzing ingredient specifications is vital in ensuring OSI is complaint to upcoming food regulations.  Regulatory specialist will need to communicate with R&D, sales, production, FDA, USDA and ingredient suppliers to retrieve key information to support decisions involving labeling, claims, exporting compliance and other inquiries

  • Collect nutritional’s from suppliers in support to implement of the new FDA nutrition facts panel.
  • Collect GMO statements for ingredients in support of future GMO labeling laws
  • Request and review ingredient specifications for accuracy.
  • Contact ingredient suppliers for customer or R&D inquiries, i.e. export compliance statements, labeling, PHO removal status etc.
  • Entering and maintaining ingredient profiles in Genesis.
  • Create ingredient statements for R&D samples.
  • Request third party analytical nutritional testing and assist in validating nutritional claims.
  • Generate technical data sheets that include, ingredient statement, allergens, product formulation, nutritional (100 grams), etc.
  • Assist in implementing and maintaining project lifetime management system
  • Support R&D food scientist in validation projects.
  • This role has the responsibility to understand and places in practice appropriate safety procedures.  This responsibility is achieved through education, training, use of protective equipment (as applicable) and by following safety policies, regulations, standards, and laws.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • 0-1 years of experience in related field is preferred.
  • Excellent proficiency in all Microsoft Office Suite Products.
  • Knowledge of and experience using FDA and USDA food regulations, specifications, and labeling databases.
  • Strong problem solving, organization, and time management skills.
  • Detail oriented. 
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally.
  • Ability to handle complexity, multiple projects, and work under tight timelines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others to bring projects to completion.

Job Requirements:

  •  BA/BS or equivalent is preferred
  • Work is generally performed within a business professional office enviornment, with standard office equipment available.
  • Work conditions are typical of an office enviornment.
  • This role requires 10% domestic travel.
  • Position requires the physical agility to perform continuous lifting up to   15 pounds, bending, squatting, pushing, pulling, stretching/reaching, use hands or fingers, talk, hear, feel objects, tools, controls and standing/walking on concrete flooring.
  •  Position requires the physical ability to stand/walk for the duration of work hours.
